The Boy and the Boat: a senior thesis animation

The Boy and the Boat: a senior thesis animation

The Boy and the Boat is a story about yearning for a different world, while one just as mysterious and beautiful is already within reach.

Developed at SCAD in 2012-2013.

Production

All visuals (character designs, storyboards, layouts, rough and cleanup animation, coloring and effects were done solely by me, with 🎹 music and sound by Jake Gibbs and Nate Fillers.

The story was inspired by my deep fascination and love for both outer space ☄️ and the ocean 🌊. I have found comfort and awe in the visual and poetic similarities between the two, and wanted to portray my appreciation for both through the eyes of a child who gets interrupted during his Cosmonaut vs Alien Invader playtime. The film represents my yen for adventure and exploration, while serving as a reminder to also appreciate what’s already in my grasp.

The film was selected for the student showcase. 🥳
